The Yellow Brick Road

Now that I had picked up Mr. D from Kentucky, I was finally going to get some rest while he drove us back to Kansas. I was so tired, and so ready for a break. Mr. D asked me to drive for a bit longer because supposedly the fumes from the bus had caused him a headache. We would stop to get something to eat shortly and then he would take over. Once we got to the next little town, we pulled over to get gas and grab a bite. Again, Mr. D, had no money, therefore I added our food and gas to expense bill that was quickly adding up. So far, I had purchased a bus ticket, I had filled my car up twice with gas to come get him, I was filling up again, and now I was buying dinner. The thing is, I never thought twice about it. This guy was going to bring so much to my life it would be worth it.

For the next 10 hours, I drove. Mr. D was fast asleep in the seat next to me. Gabe was asleep as well but at least he kept me awake and helped me drive there. I was beyond tired. I even told him that I was going to pull over and rest for a bit. I was kind of hoping that he would take that as a hint, that he was failing at his promises already. Nope, the hint was not taken. I continued following the yellow brick road until we pulled into our little Kansas town. Oh Did I mention, that by now it was Monday morning? Yes Monday, that meant that I had time for a quick snuggling session, a quick shower and then I had to get dressed and go to work.

Eight hours later, I would get off work, come home and start the rest of my life with this guy. It was going to be wonderful. It was wonderful for about three months. Then things began to change. I began to find things out, I began to put two and two together. Mr. D’s paperwork from Boeing never showed up, but he wasn’t concerned because convienently he decided to apply at a local place in our little town. He knew to VP of the company because he was from our hometown, plus they had worked together before. He had also worked at this company before, so thankfully he was able to get on within a month or so. Yes again, I was footing the bill for the first month he lived with me.

So now that I have layed the foundation and explained how our story started, it’s time to jump into the meat and potatoes. In the next post, I will begin talk to you about how I found out that my husband was an addict. I will tell you how I dealt with it finding out and the rest of the story. There is a lot of story to tell, like I said, we have been doing this for seven years. I hope that you continue to go on this journey with me. Feel free to post questions or thoughts below. I will try to respond to all of them. For now, I’m going to get ready to go hang out with my grandson for his fourteenth birday. Have a wonderful Saturday, and we will talk soon.
